Located in the middle of Mongolia’s desert, the museum, a project signed by Ma Yangson, stands between the infinit dunes, known by its famous sandstorms.

In the middle of Gobi’s desert, at Inner Mongolia – Autonomous Region of China – we will find this architectural masterpiece that looks like a spaceship. It is an enormous structure shaped unconventional. Its skeleton seems to be shaped by the relentless desert winds. You get the impression that the materials used in its construction are completely malleable and adaptable to wind, rain and heat. And despite all these peculiarities, such a construction is actually a museum!

The amazing Ordos Museum, all made of aluminum, stands out among the endless dunes of the region. Its exterior light, which reflects sunlight, contrasts with the interior of the building, made ​​of plaster and fiberglass. The museum has a collection of more than seven thousand pieces of ancient artifacts from Mongolia.

Opened in 2011, this futuristic project design began in 2005. It is signed by the Chinese architect Ma Yansong, founder of MAD Architects, based in Beijing. It is a construction of an organic form, like a large pebble constantly seen in the region. For others, it’s like a huge spaceship. Anyway, this unusual building catches the eye of the beholder.

The idea of ​​Yansong with the spectacular architecture of the Museum of Ordos is to capture the beauty that is the contradiction between tradition and modernity. The Chinese architect wanted to make a contrast between what is classical and what is contemporary in the region, and summarizes all the meanings of this reflection in this stunning and eccentric work.
