I love the bizarre world of Chapman Brothers!Jake Chapman. Their father was a British art teacher and their mother an orthodox Greek Cypriot. They were brought up in Cheltenham but moved to Hastings where they attended a local comprehensive. Dinos studied at the Ravensbourne College of Art (1979–81), Jake at the North East London Polytechnic (1985–88) before both together enrolled at The Royal College of Art (1988–90), when they also worked as assistants to the artists Gilbert and George.
One of their last work is “The Dark Destroyer”, inspired in a theme that they are very used to, by creating Nazis look alike soldier, this time in human scale in many embarrassing situations, they all look burned and evil.
Another great work from the brothers is the F******* Hell. The original work of art by the infamous Chapman brothers, which featured 5,000 miniature model Nazi soldiers performing atrocities, was destroyed in a blaze that swept through an art depot in 2004.
But then Jake and Dinos Chapman unveiled a new version based on the same concept, entitled F****** Hell. This time Hell is even bigger and nastier. Tens of thousands of the tiny plastic figures are depicted carrying out genocide and torture.
The metamorphosis is another big theme in their work, normaly using kids looking like a message of child abuses during war times. You can see how distort but at the same time their work can be by looking at the piece that was featured at Ant Noises II in the Saatchi Gallerie.
Dinos and Jake have lots and lots of great works that you can check out everywhere at their website.
