Colorful Art Deco Pieces by Ashley Hicks

Ashley Hicks was born in 1963 and trained at the Architectural Association in London. He worked briefly for his father, famed interior designer David Hicks, before starting his own design practice. He might be known for his interior design projects, but he also has a collection of colorful art deco, very distinctive.

In 1997 Ashley Hicks designed his first furniture collection, named Jantar Mantar, starting with his interpretation of an ancient Greek Klismos chair. In 2002 he published Design Alchemy, a review of interiors and products designed by him and his first wife Allegra Tondato. Ashley designed a series of Allegra Hicks shops, as well as ranges of home accessories sold in these shops.

Ashley wrote a personal memoir of his father, David Hicks: Designer, in 2002, with a foreword by Tom Ford. Starting in 2003, he created the David Hicks by Ashley Hicks collections of fabrics, carpet and wallpaper. In 2009 he published the definitive review of his father’s career and life, David Hicks: A Life of Design, and in 2016 he published the 4-volume David Hicks Scrapbooks with IDEA Publishing, which sold out in just 2 days. In 2017, Ashley released with IDEA Publishing his first book on his personal work, Details, with a forward by his good friend and frequent collaborator Martina Mondadori Sartogo, which also quickly sold out.

He has his own line of fabric, Ashley Hicks Textures, as well as a collection of carpets, and created a collection of bed linens with Frette, which is available in their London flagship store.  Ashley is also a contributing editor for Cabana Magazine and regularly participates in their global exhibitions. He divides his time between London and Oxfordshire but can oftentimes be found in cemeteries throughout the English countryside taking photos for his Instagram account, much to the chagrin of his current wife.
