Contemporary art by Joana Vasconcelos created the Giardino dell’eden in cooperation with swiss brand Swatch at Art Basel.
“Giardino dell’Eden,” accordingly to Joana Vasconcelos workshop, is “a labyrinth Eden of artificial flowers and light”, and is presented on an inflatable pavilion.
Swatch is promoting another events at the Biennale and “Il Giardino dell’Eden”, situated in Giardini, will be on until 22 November.
It takes some seconds for the eyes to adjust to the darkness inside the inflatable plastic structure: the “Garden of Eden” is a journey through an oneiric landscape, made of hundreds luminescent flowers, that overturns the traditional notion of a garden.
The installation is composed by posies of artificial flowers, made with textile and optical fibers woven together. Such incessant chromatic change produces a sensation of movement, like the entire garden being swept by a gentle breeze. The sounds produced by the mechanism inside the cylinders, resembling insects, blend with an electronic music composition by Jonas Runa to form a complex soundscape.
