Contemporary art by Ursula Commandeur is really intriguing and special. You will wonder what her sculptures are suppose to be, and your feeling will be controversial.
Olga Commandeur works intuitively- with her ‘inner eye’. There are similarities with marine life or individual parts of the body of sea creatures and her works. The translucency of the white, unglazed porcelain is an approximation to the transparent bodies of these small creatures. Yet is is the artist’s desire to create something abstract, and not something distinctly animal. Intriguiging creatures that are created in her mind.
She uses sharp, thin wires that seem to enclose the ceramic part of the work and it is impossible to reach in and touch the object. But sometimes the artist uses rubber cords used to create images of motion with serially thrown elements. The artist always prefer the contrast between white and black.
