Magen H Gallery is one of the best design galleries in NY that exhibits significant design in sculpture, decorative arts, and architecture with special emphasis given to French post-war Design.
Since 1997, the gallery has pioneered revolutionary and significant design in sculpture, decorative arts and ceramics. the collection progresses the artistic dialogue between these historical significant works and contemporaries who visually articulate a personal philosophy. These pieces reveal the compelling tension between the organic spirit of the material and the artists’ mastery over the medium. From its inception, the collection of works has been built on the founding premise that art and design are allied and interdependent.
Exhibiting works in craft mediums, the gallery seeks objects that transcend form and function.

Almost everything in the gallery is one of a kind.
The owners of Magen H Gallery, April and Hugues Magen, are married to the idea that good art and design must be backed up with a deep personal philosophy and a strong concept. “We’re attracted to artists with a real academic background,” April says. “Concept and craft have to be the primary elements of their vocabulary.”
Not surprisingly, the couple dislikes the art world’s tendency to confer instant star status on artists. “You need about 25 years to gauge the influence of a body of work,” April says. Accordingly, the gallery specializes in influential but fairly under-the-radar postwar European decorative artists, architects, sculptors and ceramicists, including Anne Barres, Pierre Jeanneret, Pierre Szekely, Andre Borderie and Francois Stahly.
