How and why did you get into the Photography? Where did you study, etc?

I’m a self-taught conceptual photographer. I tried to take photography classes but they were not informative. I studied from books and online videos. It required a lot of practice. I made so many mistakes. Live & learn!

I started taking pictures seriously in 2010. I bought my first DSLR. After being in fashion business so many years, I thought I needed another creative outlet.

How would you describe your photography style? How varied are your photographs? Do you have a signature touch with your artworks?

There is always some humor in my photographs. I have been getting so much attention on my latest series which is called Accident Series. They are peculiar combinations of painting, photographs and collage. My style is re-photographing existing artworks and giving them new meanings and modern touches.

What do you love about being a photographer?

I love capturing! It is much easier than talking and writing. My photographs talk for me. I can be quiet and out of touch from everyone.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I can get inspiration from anywhere. I search online a lot. I love reading art history books. I can get inspiration even in a 99cents store. In fact, my latest photography project “Accident Series” is mostly based on 99 cents-store materials. I was at a street fair this weekend. I bought little fun colorful objects. They give me joy & inspiration. I keep them for a while on my desk. I stare at them for days. Finally!  Ideas pop in my mind. I get so excited and I can’t wait to photograph them!

One of my most popular photographs is “Very First Accident”. It is basically one broken egg on a Dutch painting. It became my signature work. I love the one with ketchup. It is very American!  I have so many favorites. They are like my children. I cannot say I love specific one the most. I love the surprise element in these images. All of them are shocking. They are ambiguous. Everyone takes a different story from these photographs.

My photographs are a projection of my persona. I believe if I work hard I will reach the point I want to be. I really enjoy the conceptual aspect of photography. Creating the idea is very difficult but once I snap the shot, it feels so good.

What are your art dreams/goals?

I have so many dreams. I want my work to be in MOMA and Whitney Museum’s permanent collection one day. It also would be so wonderful, if I get included in the upcoming Whitney Biennale. That’s my dream and also goal.

Describe yourself in three words.
