Born in 1983 in New Orleans, Zoë Williams is a sculptor that work in needle felted wool explores the interplay between the (inner) realm of the collective unconscious and the (outer) kingdom of nature.
Her love for animals brought her to build these white and glittering needle felted wool sculptures, hanging on the wall like hunted trophies. ‘Spirits, sacred creatures and phantoms from the dream world inhabit my work’ and these creatures, like rhinos, deers and unicorns serve her as intermediaries, helping the viewer to approach the inner realm of the collective unconscious and the outer kingdom of nature.
Ultimately, they look too dangerous to pet. They’re strange taxidermy style mounts meant to appeal to animal lovers, who also want to spruce up their world with a bold work of art.
