Maison et objet designer of the year 2016 is Eugeni Qquitllet. As usual, each year the international design fair Maison et Objet acknowledges the most outstanding names of the international design and decor industries, and showcases each one of these creative protagonists during the global fair’s four annual editions.
Each one of these occasions affords the selected individuals a space entirely dedicated to them, where they have the opportunity to showcase their work and express their design practice in a manner they see fit. This year Eugeni Qquitllet is the winner of such title this year.

The Catalan designer, who graduated from la llotja art school in Barcelona, readily describes his creative state of being that of a ‘disoñador’ — a contraction of the Spanish words for ‘designer’ and ‘dreamer’. having been born in Ibiza, Quitllet first witnessed a rural stretch of beach become an informal hub for ultra-modern electronic music, before he grew up in Barcelona; a place of architectural divide where gaudí’s organic outbursts fraternize with a rationalist marmoreal jewel (the pavilion) designed by mies van der rohe.
He works across a range of design disciplines — from desktop accessories to electronics to furniture — conceiving best-selling objects that linger between drawings and sculptures, mastering fullness and voids; to reveal elegant silhouettes hidden within his material choices. His creative vocabulary surpasses the simple relationship between function and style, introducing new products to the contemporary design scene.
