One of the exhibitors at Maison et Objet next January is Katriina Nuutinen. Katriina is a Finlandese designer graduated from the School of Arts and Design at Aalto University, Helsinki with a Master’s degree in 2011. Katriina’s work is an outstanding example of modern Finnish glass design, inspired by the captivating interplay of glass and light.
Katriina makes part of Talents à la carte, the award by Maison et Objet that highlights six emerging designers, or pairs of designers, selected for the January 2016 session. You will find these particularly promising young designers at the heart of the Talents à la Carte space. A true creative breath of fresh air.
She specializes in glass and ceramics, but her work is also characterized by explorations with wood, metal, leather and textiles, as well as combining different materials. Katriina’s harmonic work mainly consists of lights, interior accessories and tableware. However, her attraction towards concept designing, as well as furniture design is increasing.
She uses different techniques and concepts and that’s what makes her creations so outstanding. The exquisite design of her lamps reflect the unyielding collaboration between the designer and various talented artisans, glass blowers and polishers as well as iron forgers.

She has already few awards in her career, for example, the Oma floor lamp that was selected for Homeware Top 25 by Monocle magazine. More recently, she was also awarded a one-year grant by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
Her breakthrough Hely jewel light earned the mention of the most beautiful product of the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2009. At the moment, the lamp is a part of the collection of The Finnish Glass Museum. The delicate Hely, made of glass, presents her know-how of various materials and her creative flair. Hely lamp consists of four glass spheres in different colours. The light bounces between the spheres and reflects in a way that makes for a very special atmosphere in the room.
