Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, in collaboration with the Italian brand Seletti and Gufram, have transformed the booth at Design Miami 2016 in three different sets. The sets were meticulously upholstered and fully furnished and lighted with also a toilet, kitchen, tableware, basically a home.
Lavishing, provoking and eerily sexual, TOILETPAPER‘s ‘maze of quotes’ installation takes over the Fondation Beyeler exhibition venue at this year’s edition in Miami beach.
The project includes three incredibly surreal settings adorned with colorful wallpapers, furniture, chandeliers, tin pots, gold drapes and paper toilets.
After the success of the gala “Super Ball” in Basel this summer, directed and staged by Toiletpaper aka Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, the Guerrilla Boys of the art world, the Beyeler Foundation was so happy to be “abused” by this organization undercover commissioned a new project for Art Basel Miami Beach.
As for the strobe lights, we should put a warning in front of the space. In fact Cattelan and Ferrari have created a beautiful hallucination that defeats any election hangover or post-presidential melancholy. Reversing the ominous phrase affixed to the top of the door in Hell Dante’s “Abandon all hope ye who enter here”, on top of the door of the Beyeler space you could imagine reading “Every lost hope is here”. Francesco Bonami writes about the installation.
Seletti‘s collaboration with the artists has managed to augment that fantastical and hyper-colored setting with a series of unconventional home objects. The result in this colorful ans outstanding exhibition.
